Privacy Policy

I, Naomi Corr (aka ‘Dibs’, informally), am a sole trader, operating as Proofreading Plus. I offer freelance proofreading, copyediting, and copy typing services to a variety of clients, including businesses and individuals.

This privacy policy describes what data I require and how I use it. This is to show how I comply with the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations) which came into force on 25th May 2018.

This privacy policy was last updated on 7th September 2022.

What information do I collect from you, and why?

When you contact me, either via email, phone, or the contact form on my website, I typically request and store the following:

  • your name and/or company name (if applicable)
  • your email address, so that I can liaise with you
  • your telephone number (if required)
  • relevant project details
  • a sample of the project (or the project in full)

If we agree to work together, I collect the following additional information:

  • postal address to be used on invoices, to ensure I fulfil my contractual obligation to Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) – the tax authority of the UK government
  • file(s) required for the work

I use your data to:

  • respond to your enquiry
  • contact you about an ongoing project
  • complete accounting processes, such as invoicing

I do not operate a mailing list and I will never use your data for marketing or promotional purposes without your written consent.

What about cookies?

I only use the necessary cookies that allow my website to function properly (including the Contact Form), and I do not use any paid-for Google advertising features (such as Google Analytics) to gain personal data.

Where do I store the data?

Emails are stored on my password-protected email account (MailEnable), to which only I have access. MailEnable’s privacy policy can be viewed here. I do not have an external address book.

Files are stored in my password-protected cloud-based storage account (MS OneDrive), and/or on my password-protected computer’s hard drive. The MS OneDrive privacy policy can be viewed here.

How long do I keep this data for?

Your personal data, eg name and address, is kept for a minimum of five years. This is to ensure I comply with my obligations to HMRC.

Your work files are generally retained for the same period of time. However, you can request that these files are deleted at any time, by emailing dibs@proofreadingplus.co.uk.

Do I share your data?

Unless I am audited by HMRC, I do not share your data with anyone.

If you provide a testimonial for my website, you can choose whether to include your name/company name or remain anonymous.

I do not subcontract work, and I do not discuss your project with third parties or on the internet/social media without prior permission. I do not collect data and then sell it or pass it on to third parties.

Consent

I ask all my clients to return a signed copy of my contract for services agreement. By doing this, you (the client) are actively accepting my privacy policy and terms and conditions.
